ANALYSIS:
AvtoVAZ published the results of the sales in January: in Russia it fell by 21.4%, to 29 thousand cars. Taking into account the export, the decrease had made 15% (to 32.6 thousand units). As a result, the plant returned to the three-year-old level - in January 2009 the company had sold 29.1 thousand cars. Sales had been falling 4th month in a row, and the situation worsens. In October, the decline was 3% and in December it is already 15%

FORECAST:
By the end of 2011, growth in car sales in Russia considerably slowed down, although many had expected the traditional New Year's seasonal sales growth. But December's increase was only 23% compared with an average annual rate (39%). According to the forecast of Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Business (AEB), in 2012 the sales of new cars in Russia will amount to from 2.8 to 3.17 million units
