WASHINGTON CONTINUES TO DENY INVOLVEMENT OF AMERICAN SUBMARINES IN KURSK SINKING
Otkrytoye Radio, news program, December 6, 2000, 13:00

US Defense Secretary William Cohen told Russian Defense Minister Igor Sergeev in Brussels that no American submarine could conceivably have been involved in the Kursk catastrophe.

Sergeev confirms that on August 17, five days after the tragedy struck, six Russian military aircraft combed the area looking for a foreign submarine limping out of the disaster zone.

Norwegian Admiral Einer Skorgin admits that something was out of order on the USS Memphis, which had been in the Barents Sea in August and later turned up at the Norwegian port Bergen. The admiral dod not specify whether the damage could have been caused by collision with the Kursk or it was just a technical malfunction.
