HOW WILL THE KURSK BE LIFTED?
Viktor Baranets, Komsomolskaya Pravda, January 16, 2001, p. 2
SUMMARY:

Igor Spassky of the Rubin says the international consortium prepared the project of lifting the nuclear submarine Kursk from the seabed. The operation is planned for July-August. It will involve eighteen divers, rescue vessel Toisa Polaris, barge Joint Barge, and a sea derrick Tialf.

The Kursk will be cut into two parts. The aft will be left where it is for the time being. Russian divers will handle it at a later date because the torpedoes in it may blow up.

The stern will be attached to ships on the surface by twenty thick cables and slowly towed to Murmansk docks.
