MINE WAR WON BY SCIENTISTS
The Stal protected Soviet ships
Anatoly Salutsky, Vremya MN, January 27, 2001, p. 6
SUMMARY:

The Stal Project dates back to the 1940's. It has been classified ever since.

It may have something to do with the Kursk catastrophe. In the first place, it indirectly hints at what might have caused it. In the second, Jores Alferov became a Nobel Prize laureate recently. Alferov is director of the Leningrad Physical-Technical Institute actively involved in the Kursk investigation. Many years ago the Institute initiated the Stal Project (anti-mine demagnetization of ships).
