THE GOVERNMENT IS WORKING ON ORDER TO LIFT THE KURSK
Nezavisimaya Gazeta, February 14, 2001, p. 1
SUMMARY:

The government is working on a resolution related to the upcoming operation in which the submarine Kursk would be lifted from the seabed, according to Ilya Klebanov, Deputy Premier and Chairman of the governmental commission investigating the catastrophe. Klebanov says that all financial matters will be specified in the resolution. The Dutch company Mamut will join the three foreign companies to be involved in the operation.

According to Klebanov, the torpedo and the torpedo compartment of the submarine are being thoroughly studied now. "We have always known that the torpedo played a role in the catastrophe," Klebanov said. According to the official, "either some external impact took place or some internal processes happened in the torpedo itself..."
