MYSTERY OF THE SECOND NOTE
What caused the catastrophe has not been a mystery for a long time already
Dmitry Vladimirov, Izvestia, February 26, 2001, p. 1
SUMMARY:

The second note lifted from the Kursk is not revealed to general public. The Navy says the note was not signed or dated and did not shed light on what had caused the catastrophe.

Unofficial sources in the Northern Fleet headquarters say the note must have been written by Lieutenant Captain Aryapov. Officers who saw the note with their own eyes say Aryapov specified that the catastrophe had been caused by explosion of the torpedo the Kursk was meant to test (this is the hypothesis particularly damaging for the Navy). Aryapov also mentioned that survivors on the Kursk lasted much longer than the Navy said they would.
