HOW THE KURSK WILL BE LIFTED
Denis Voroshilov, Rossiya, March 15, 2001, p. 3
SUMMARY:

A source in the Design Bureau Rubin says the Kursk will be lifted from the seabed in late August or September. The operation will cost approximately $70 million. It is to purely financial matters that the current delays are attributed, the source says.

Two powerful sea cranes will be taken out to the site of the catastrophe, thick cables will be attached to the Kursk. The submarine will be brought up, fastened to a large barge, and brought to the shore.

Choice of the drydock the Kursk will end up in will tell a lot. The Zvezdochka specializes in external causes like collisions, torpedoes, and so on. The Sevmashpredpriyatie specializes in errors of construction, i.e. investigates catastrophes caused by flawed design.
