DISPOSABLE NAVY
The tragedy of the nuclear submarine Komsomolets on April 7, 1989, has not taught the authorities anything
Irina Kedrova, Tribuna, April 7, 2001, p. 2
SUMMARY:

Tragedy of the Kursk brings into the spotlight the problems of security of the crew and nuclear submarines in general.

Most tragedies with nuclear submarines were caused by fires and explosions.

Alexander Borodin, Captain 3rd Class, who served on the Komsomolets and lived to tell the tale, is stone-cold confident that nuclear submarine is always a danger and a trouble waiting to happen.

Ten percent of the nuclear submarine force of the Russian Navy were plucked from the combat composition of the Navy by catastrophes. Five Russian nuclear reactors (the Kursk's is the sixth) are on the seabed all around the world.
