The Mayo diving support vessel, which is committed to the lifting of the Kursk nuclear sub, entered the harbor of Kirkenes, Norway, in the early hours of Thursday, in order to unload ground-washing equipment and load the equipment to cut off the devastated front compartment, aide to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Igor Dygalo announced. At the Kursk disaster site, the forces of the special purpose expedition are proceeding with their actions as planned.

The Severomorsk large anti-submarine warfare ship and the Aisberg small missile carrier warship are guarding the site. The GS-87 hydrographic vessel is conducting radiation monitoring. The expedition's support plan provides for two supply vessels and the Svir hospital ship to be deployed in the area.

Dygalo disclosed no undetonated explosives had been discovered when examining the bow compartment. Ground was washed away around the bow of the Kursk wreck 25 meters long, 20 meters wide, and 1.5 meters deep.

All the work was carried out strictly in line with the operation's safety certificate, the Navy CINC aide stressed.

The weather on site is adequate for the expedition's forces to carry out the mission at appropriate efficiency level.
