RELATIVES SUE THE RUSSIAN NORTHERN FLEET
Rossia, September 6, 2001, p. 6

Relatives of seamen of the Kursk submarine who perished in the Barents Sea demanded that the prosecutor's office start a criminal case against the command of the Northern Fleet. According to them, the command did not do anything to rescue the crew. Nadezhda Nekrasova, the mother of one seaman, said that the servicemen who gathered in the ninth compartment of the submarine after the explosion were murdered. Roman Kolesnikov said, "The shipwreck and rescuing of living seamen are different things." He said that the demand to start a criminal case has been sent to the General Prosecutor's Office and the president. Vladimir Putin did not answer. It turned out that the military prosecutor's office of the Northern Fleet does not intend to start a criminal case. The public relations department of the General Prosecutor's Office refused to comment on this incident.
