THE GOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION FOR INVESTIGATING THE KURSK'S SHIPWRECK CONSIDERS ONLY ONE THEORY: A TORPEDO EXPLOSION
NTVRU.com, June 19, 2002

This news comes from chair of the commission Ilya Klebanov, Minister for Industry, Science, and Technologies. (...)

According to Klebanov, "the commission has rejected the theories of a collision with another submarine and a mine explosion". He noted that to all appearances the commission will hold the second-last meeting on June 19. The commission will soon produce a document regarding the cause of the sinking, which will be announced at the last meeting on June 29.

According to the minister, members of the commission agree that "nothing needs to be raised from the seabed of the Barents Sea", and have addressed the command of the Navy with a proposal to stop the operation. (...)

The fate of the remnants of the first compartment of the submarine, which have remained on the seabed, will be solved at the last meeting of the commission on June 29 after the Navy submits its proposals.
