PRESIDENT DMITRY MEDVEDEV INSISTS ON ESTABLISHMENT OF A COURT FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Establishment of a court for intellectual property is delayed.

"RUSHING PUTIN", Vedomosti, No 137, July 27, 2011, p. 3, Margarita Lyutova

President Dmitry Medvedev ordered establishment of a court for intellectual property in 2009. Last autumn, the Supreme Court of Arbitration submitted to the Duma a draft law on its establishment within the framework of the system of arbitration. The Duma is taking its time. Not even the first reading of the document has taken place.

The president admonished the government for being too slow with carrying out his orders, yesterday. He said that he himself would see to adoption of the law if it came to that. Approached for comments, Presidential Aide Arkady Dvorkovich and Press Secretary Natalia Timakova admitted that they did not know the reason for the delays. Premier's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov declined comment.

Anton Ivanov, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Arbitration, reckoned that the delays might be caused by financial considerations. Experts in the employ of the Supreme Court of Arbitration said that establishment of the court for intellectual property might require about 2 billion rubles. "On the other hand, it's not that large a sum," said Ivanov.
