On-Going Monitoring

Round-the-clock, since 1993, WPS monitors the broadcasts of Russian electronic media. Each broadcast segment that contains a reference to the subject matter specified by your order will be carefully selected and, if you request, transcribed in Russian or English. You may also request that, on the day following the broadcast, we notify you in Russian or English of the news content, before you decide whether to order a transcript or tape. Summaries and transcripts will be transmitted to you by email or fax. Tapes will be delivered by courier to meet your deadlines.

Backsearch of Video and Transcripts

WPS keeps an archive of broadcast recordings (see the table), so that you may request a backsearch and retrieval of news segments. Russian transcripts of broadcasts are imported in our database. They can be retrieved at any time and, if needed, translated for you into English.

Monitoring results can be presented to you as:

    Russian transcript – full transcript of a broadcast segment;
    English transcript – full translation of a Russian transcript.
    broadcast summary – a broadcast data sheet showing how a certain event was mirrored by Russian electronic media. Apart from standard broadcast data, it may contain a brief description of each broadcast segment;
    DVD-clipping - assembling of several digital clips on a DVD with a navigation menu;

FOR RESEARCHERS AND STUDENTS

If you have a steady interest in Russian electronic media news and can read Russian, you may wish to subscribe to our specialized digestsRussian press digests and surveys. All important political and business televised news of general interest are transcribed in Russian immediately after the broadcast, sorted by subject matter and published in our electronic TV & Radio Monitor: Politika, twice a day, and TV & Radio Monitor: Ekonomika, once a day. The most important news and comments are used, in addition to newspaper material, in our English-language digests: The Russian Business Monitor and Defense and Security.

The archive of Russian broadcast transcripts maintained by WPS since 1993 is a valuable source of information on the modern history of Russia. Between 1993 and 2000 we transcribed selected news, political and public affairs programming. Full transcripts of all news and political programmes are available since 2000. Basing on this rare information source you can trace step by step the development of any political and social process in this country as mirrored by local electronic media.

WPS also maintains archives of Russian print media. For more information on our Russian Media Archives please explore the Archive pageRussian media archives.
