OPERATION TO RAISE THE KURSK TO START IN JULY
NTV, Segodnya, July 2, 2001, 12:00

On July 2, the British diving vessel Mayo will leave the port of Aberdeen and head for the area in the Barents Sea where the nuclear-powered submarine Kursk sank last August. The vessel, which will participate in the Kursk lifting operation, is expected to reach its destination point by July 9. Meanwhile, the Russian side is to install the necessary equipment in the accident zone and measure the radiation level near the sub's wreck. Apart from four guard warships, the operation will involve hydrographic and S&R vessels, the Svir floating hospital, and several tankers and floating cranes.

In addition, helicopters and cargo aircraft will be used at various stages of the operation.
